Trichinella spiralis infection has been in the medical and biological limelight for more than a century, and interest in it continues una­ bated-as evidenced by what Norman Stoll called the “perennially exuberant” research on trichinosis. The infection seems to offer some­ thing for almost everyone. For the physician, it offers a patient with painful and sometimes fatal disease; for the public-health official, a threat to the commonweal; for the experimental biologist, a life cycle that is unique yet easily and rapidly maintained in the laboratory; for the field ecologist, a symbiont with an affinity for an extraordinary range of wildlife species; for the pork producer, a poorer profit; for the cook, a culinary constraint; and for the diner, a dietary danger. Yet, despite this breadth of interest, and the cascade of new data, the only comprehensive books on the subject in English are those of S.E.

CSN EN ISO 18743 – Microbiology of the food chain – Detection of Trichinella larvae in meat by artificial digestion method

EN ISO 18743 Microbiology of the food chain – Detection of Trichinella larvae in meat by artificial digestion method – ISO 18743:2015 specifies a method of detection of Trichinella spp. muscle stage larvae in meat of individual animal carcasses intended for human consumption. It is applicable to the examination of meat from domestic and sylvatic animal species, which can be infected by nematodes of the genus Trichinella. This method does not allow the identification of the species or genotype of detected parasites, species or genotype identification can be carried out by molecular methods. The method described in this International Standard is intended to be used in conjunction with the guidelines in the OIE Manual of Diagnostic Tests and Vaccines and by the International Commission on Trichinellosis (ICT) for Trichinella testing and the inspection of carcasses intended for human consumption, unless it has been demonstrated by other means that the animal was not at risk for exposure to Trichinella. The artificial digestion/magnetic stirrer method is considered to be the standard method because it has proven to give the most reliable results in validation studies. Regenerative Effect of Trichinella spiralis on Drug-Induced Myopathy

Muscle wasting diseases affect millions of people worldwide leading to impaired function in activities of their daily life. The treatment of the idiopathic myopathies is still largely empirical. Recently, a new era of using helminthic therapy in many diseases has been emerged. Although T. spiralis infection induces moderate myopathic changes in the muscles; there is possible relationship between T. spiralis muscle larval invasion and the subsequent muscle regeneration produced. This relation could be used as a novel helminthic therapy to ameliorate the severity of idiopathic autoimmune myopathy. This book could help anyone interest in studying the therapeutic effect of T. spiralis and its antigens. Also, it could help anyone interest in discovery a new line of therapy for idiopathic myopathy.
